"Fall 2016 Capability Delivery Plans" Rating

We asked the UREP to review the six following Capability Delivery Plans (CDPs) at the end of 2016 and confirm their importance. (This was a follow-up to a previous prioritization activity in mid-2016.) The results will guide work by XSEDE's Community Infrastructure team (XCI) in early 2017. The results confirm that each of these plans is worthwhile. Two of the CDPs (DA-1 and DA-2) may be more urgent than the other four. One CDP (SGW-4) might benefit from re-thinking or re-writing, because some reviewers indicated confusion about the intended purpose and the degree to which it is (or is not) already possible with existing methods.

The UREP used the following rating scale.

5 star - XSEDE should do this. (high priority)
4 star - XSEDE should do this. (normal priority)
3 star - XSEDE should do this. (low priority)
2 star - XSEDE should not do this. (maybe)
1 star - XSEDE should not do this. (definitely)

SGW-01: Acquire credentials that allow use of community resources
(Capability Delivery Plan)

This activity would document how science gateway developers can use XSEDE identities (from the XSEDE user portal) to authenticate gateway users, as an alternative to maintaining a unique user registry for each gateway.

SGW-04: Enable gateway users to transfer files to or from a community resource
(Capability Delivery Plan)

This set of activities would document how science gateway developers can enable their research users to transfer gateway-related files from XSEDE resources to their local computers (laptops, desktops, campus resources) or vice-versa. Based on the UREP's assessment, XCI may need to rethink/rewrite this plan to clarify its purpose.
