Service Provider Interactive Visualization Resources (IVR)

Operational Software and Service Component

Several XSEDE Service Providers (SPs) offer Interactive Visualization Resources (IVRs). An IVR allows individuals with an allocation on the resource to submit and manage computational jobs to a batch processing service. In addition to ordinary batch processing, the IVR allows running jobs to accept network connections from external systems (visualization display systems) so that the data being processed can be transmitted and visualized. In some cases, the external network connections also allow instructions from the display system to be transmitted to the running job, enabling the computation to be "steered." Most (but not all) IVRs offer command-line interfaces (CLI) and require remote terminal (command shell) login to an interactive node on the system where the CLI is available. Others offer Web portal interfaces.
